Embraer Unveils C-390 Millennium at Africa Aerospace & Defence Expo

Embraer is presenting its versatile C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft at the Africa Aerospace & Defence (AAD) expo, running from September 18 to 22, 2024, at Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria.

As a crucial asset, the C-390 Millennium is engineered for a broad range of military and support missions, catering to the needs of armed forces and government agencies.

“The C-390 Millennium is designed for adaptability; it excels not only in military operations but also in national missions such as disaster response, medical evacuations, maritime surveillance, and firefighting. We believe the C-390 is ideally suited for the diverse requirements of the South African Air Force and various ministries,” stated Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.

With a payload capacity of 26 tons and a cruising speed of 470 knots, the C-390 features advanced avionics, making it a leader in its category. Its powerful engines, spacious cargo hold with a rear ramp, and sturdy landing gear enable operations from unpaved runways. This strategic aircraft is capable of executing various military and civilian missions, including transport of freight, personnel, and vehicles for peacekeeping, special operations, humanitarian support, medical evacuations, search and rescue, maritime surveillance, firefighting, air-to-air refueling, and disaster management.

Recently, the C-390 was integrated with a roll-on/roll-off Intensive Care Unit for the Hungarian Air Force, enhancing its ability to support critical medical evacuations and humanitarian efforts.

Since its introduction to the Brazilian Air Force in 2019 and later to the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, the C-390 has demonstrated high operational efficiency and reliability. Its impressive performance and cost-effectiveness have led to its selection by several countries, including Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and South Korea.

Currently, the fleet has achieved over 14,000 flight hours, with a mission capability rate of 93% and completion rates exceeding 99%, showcasing remarkable productivity within its class.
