Opposition parties, including the National Unity Platform (NUP), Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), and Democratic Party (DP), have faced a significant blow as over 200 of their mobilizers defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Speaking at the NRM headquarters in Kampala, a jubilant NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong, credited the growing number of defectors to the party’s longstanding record of delivering services to the Ugandan people.

“Over the years, people have crossed to the NRM after realizing that other parties have little to offer. This wave of migration is a strong endorsement of the NRM’s achievements in areas like infrastructure and social programs,” Todwong stated.

He highlighted NRM’s success in peace, security, and development, which has resonated deeply with the public. Todwong also pointed to improvements in road networks, electricity access, and poverty reduction initiatives as key factors in the party’s appeal.

NRM’s Director of Communication and Publicity, Emmanuel Lumala Dombo, emphasized the party’s focus on inclusivity, saying, “The NRM stands for unity and inclusiveness. We don’t discriminate based on tribe, religion, or disability. This commitment to unity sets us apart from other political groups.”

Director for Finance and Administration, Medina Naham Hajjat, welcomed the new members, expressing gratitude for their decision to join the NRM and reiterating the party’s mission to transform Uganda.

The new converts, from districts such as Mubende, Luuka, and Packwach, as well as Kampala’s Rubaga Division, will be inducted into the NRM’s vision and values to help them integrate into the party’s long-term goals.
