Preparations for the 2024 National Youth Conference are in full swing, with Hoima Catholic Diocese preparing to host over 10,000 young people from dioceses across Uganda for the annual provincial youth conference. The church aims to collaborate with the government to help shape the future of the youth.
The diocese is hosting the event on behalf of the Mbarara province, primarily targeting young people aged 12-35, both in and out of school, from all denominations. The goal is to inspire positive transformation in their lives, fostering better Ugandans.
Rev. Fr. Lawrence Mandela, the diocesan youth chaplain, and Rev. Fr. Silvester Birungi emphasize that the church is committed to its role of guiding, empowering, and teaching the youth to live righteous lives.
Monsignor Robert Mugisa, the diocesan Vicar General, has expressed anticipation for the large number of youths from across the country and beyond. The conference will run from December 10-15 this year.
Monsignor Mugisa also extended his gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the preparations for this significant event.
The theme for the conference is drawn from Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint,” a message inspired by Pope Francis in preparation for the Jubilee pilgrimage planned for 2025.
