The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has criticized the Uganda Law Council for refusing to grant NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua a temporary practicing certificate to represent Dr. Kizza Besigye in Uganda’s General Court Martial.
In a statement on December 10, 2024, LSK President Faith Adhiambo labeled the decision as “derogatory” and “high-handed,” arguing it undermines cross-border legal cooperation. She emphasized Kenya’s openness to regional legal practice and pledged LSK’s support for Karua, a senior counsel.
Adhiambo announced plans to engage Kenya’s Attorney General to address the impasse, calling for mutual respect in regional legal practices and warning against unfair treatment of Kenyan advocates.
This follows Karua’s own criticism of the Uganda Law Council, accusing it of baseless attacks on her integrity and professionalism.
