Summary:

  • A drone strike on el-Fasher’s last functioning hospital killed nine and injured 20, forcing its closure amid ongoing clashes between Sudan’s army and RSF in Darfur.

At least nine people have lost their lives, and 20 others sustained injuries in a drone strike on a hospital in el-Fasher, located in Sudan’s northern Darfur region.

Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of launching the attack, which occurred on Friday. Authorities reported that four rocket-propelled grenades were fired at the city’s primary healthcare facility.

Local resistance committees, actively engaged in relief operations, confirmed that the strike hit the Saudi Hospital, forcing it to cease operations. This facility was the last functioning hospital in el-Fasher, leaving the city without essential medical services.

Since May 10, fierce fighting has erupted between the Sudanese army and RSF in el-Fasher, a key hub for humanitarian efforts coordinated by the United Nations and other international organizations in the Darfur region.
Escalating Violence in Darfur

Friday’s assault adds to a series of brutal attacks that have plagued the region this week. On Monday, an airstrike on an open-air market in Kabkabiya, approximately 180 km (111 miles) from el-Fasher, claimed over 100 lives, including women and children, according to the rights group Emergency Lawyers.

These incidents highlight the growing humanitarian crisis in Sudan as conflict continues to devastate civilian lives and essential infrastructure in the region.
