Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, hailed the move as a milestone for the institution, Côte d’Ivoire, and the continent. “This decision is historic for our staff, the Bank, and Africa. It affirms that the African Development Bank, as the premier financial institution on the continent, deserves a headquarters that reflects its global stature,” he said.
Dr. Adesina highlighted that the vision for this project began when he assumed office in 2015. He emphasized the building’s role in enhancing productivity, operational efficiency, and creating a world-class workplace.
The new facility, set to rise on the site of the current headquarters, will feature eco-friendly architectural innovations, advanced security systems, and enhanced amenities. It aims to support the Bank’s commitment to green growth, energy efficiency, and safety while strengthening connections with stakeholders.
Adama Koné, Dean of the Bank Group’s Boards of Directors and Côte d’Ivoire’s representative, presented the approved land title for the site to Dr. Adesina on behalf of the government.
Dr. Adesina expressed gratitude to President Alassane Ouattara and the Ivorian government for their unwavering support. “Today’s decision reaffirms our permanent home in Côte d’Ivoire. We are excited to embark on this landmark project with the government’s continued backing,” he remarked.
