“The attackers, all reportedly armed, opened fire in the air to disperse nearby residents before fleeing with the stolen money,” said Mr. Maate. Police recovered nine bullet cartridges from the scene and have launched an investigation into the case, now classified as aggravated robbery and attempted murder.
Mucunguzi was rushed to a local health facility for treatment. Meanwhile, Mr. Turinayo claimed the assailants were dressed in police uniforms, raising further concern about impersonation and public safety.
Kisoro District LCV Chairperson Mr. Abel Bizimana urged the district security committee to take swift action to apprehend the criminals and recover the stolen firearms. “Kisoro has generally been safe despite conflict in neighboring DRC. This robbery is alarming and must be dealt with decisively,” he stated.
Mr. Fred Ndagije, the LCI chairperson of Rushenyi, blamed the incident on poor security in the area and called for improved surveillance to prevent future attacks.
