The Ministry of Interior has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Tourism to enhance security measures for tourists in Kenya. The agreement was signed by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano.

CS Kindiki highlighted that the partnership will strengthen cooperation with the National Police Service (NPS) to ensure a safe and positive travel experience for both domestic and international tourists. He noted that the initiative is expected to boost the tourism sector and create more job opportunities in the country.

“To achieve this, we’ve signed an MoU to enhance collaboration with the NPS through the Tourism Police Unit (TPU), ensuring the necessary resources and support to safeguard tourists’ security,” Kindiki said.

The MoU aims to increase foreign tourist arrivals from 2 million to 5 million by 2027, and to 10 million by 2032. The agreement was witnessed by key officials, including Principal Secretaries Raymond Omollo (Interior Security) and John Ololtuaa (Tourism), as well as Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat.
