Ugandan DStv subscribers are expressing mounting frustration after MultiChoice Uganda announced another price increase, just six months after the last hike in April 2024. Many customers are canceling their subscriptions, citing financial strain and dissatisfaction with the service.
The new price adjustments, set to take effect in October, will see DStv Premium rise from Shs290,000 to Shs300,000, while DStv Compact Plus will increase from Shs170,000 to Shs175,000. GOtv Supa is also affected, going from Shs69,000 to Shs71,000.
Angry customers have labeled the hikes as an “insult to loyal subscribers” already grappling with inflation and economic challenges. Many say they can no longer afford such luxuries and are opting out.
MultiChoice Uganda’s communications manager, Rinaldi Jamugisa, explained that the increase is driven by rising content production costs. “We invest heavily in producing original content, securing exclusive shows, and broadcasting live sports, all of which come at significant expense,” he said, adding that economic factors also influence pricing.
