Ugandan Vice President Jessica Alupo has hailed China as a crucial partner in accelerating Uganda’s development, during a reception hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Kampala. The event marked the upcoming 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

Alupo highlighted the significance of agreements signed during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing, which aim to bolster bilateral trade and development efforts. “China is our strategic development partner, and I take pride in the elevation of our relations during the 2024 FOCAC,” she remarked.

At the FOCAC summit, China outlined 10 partnership actions to be rolled out over the next three years, targeting sectors like trade, infrastructure, agriculture, green development, and cultural exchange.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Lizhong echoed Alupo’s sentiments, noting China’s role in Uganda’s transport and energy projects, including the expansion of Entebbe International Airport and the construction of two key power plants.

The event also recognized the outgoing Chinese medical team in Uganda and celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Confucius Institute at Makerere University. The gathering attracted government officials, diplomats, and business leaders.
