Market by MoMo serves as a one-stop digital marketplace where Ugandans can buy and sell a wide range of products, from electronics and groceries to fashion, beauty, fitness, and home appliances. It provides reliable services, flexible payment options, and prompt deliveries, making it a game-changer for the country’s growing e-commerce sector.

At the platform’s official launch in Kampala, Brian Mutungi, Ecommerce Country Lead for MTN Group Fincommerce, highlighted the transformative potential of Market by MoMo. “This platform combines a variety of product categories, flexible payment options, and a user-friendly shopping experience, making it a significant development for Uganda’s digital market,” he said. “Our partnership with Mastercard has been key in bringing this project to life.”

Mutungi emphasized that Market by MoMo will not only provide consumers with a variety of products but also help Ugandan traders expand their businesses by connecting them to a broader customer base.

MTN Uganda’s GM of Sales and Distribution, Joseph Bogera, described the launch as part of MTN’s vision to foster an equitable, connected, and empowered society. “We are committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of background, benefits from a modern, connected life,” he remarked.

Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Officer of Consumer Business at MTN Uganda, noted the importance of collaboration in achieving this milestone. “This launch reflects the progress we’ve made and the power of partnerships that drive innovation and create tangible benefits for people across Uganda,” she said.

Sarah Bateta Okwi, Chief Finance Officer of MTN MoMo, spoke on the expanded role of MoMo in Uganda’s e-commerce landscape. “Beyond person-to-person transfers, MoMo is now offering enhanced value by supporting online shopping, which complements physical sales with digital opportunities for traders.”

Mastercard’s Executive Vice President for Market Development, EEMEA, Amnah Ajmal, emphasized the importance of ensuring safe and seamless digital experiences for consumers. “This collaboration with MTN Group Fintech is helping create economic opportunities and digital inclusion, aligning with Mastercard’s vision for a more inclusive, digital Africa,” she said.

The platform’s launch is being marked by exciting offers, including discounts of up to 60% on select product categories, with Black Friday and festive season deals to follow. Mutungi expressed his excitement about the growth potential of the e-commerce sector, noting that Market by MoMo will contribute to Uganda’s economic growth by empowering Ugandans to engage in digital transformation.

As Uganda’s e-commerce landscape continues to evolve, Market by MoMo is positioned to play a pivotal role in bridging traders and consumers in the country’s expanding digital economy. MTN Group Fincommerce’s commitment to digital innovation and entrepreneurship is set to foster a secure, customer-focused online marketplace for Ugandans nationwide.
