Assoc. Prof. Helen Nambalirwa Nkabala, Principal of CHUSS, highlighted the significance of teamwork and personal responsibility in aligning with the university’s strategic goals. “We are here to learn, dialogue, and strategize together to improve our services. It starts with us,” she stated.

Key presentations were delivered by experts, including Deus Tayari Mujuni, Chief Human Resource Officer, who outlined the university’s updated HR policies. Prof. Sylvia Tamusuza, Chair of the CHUSS Quality Assurance Committee, stressed the role of quality assurance in boosting service delivery and Makerere’s reputation.

Dr. Dickson Kanakulya and Dr. Gilbert Gumoshabe addressed work ethics, professionalism, and customer care, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a positive and productive work environment.

The retreat featured team-building exercises, interactive sessions, and role-plays to provide practical tools for staff to enhance their performance. Participants expressed gratitude, with Chief Custodian Sunday Seezi noting the event’s inclusivity: “This retreat made us feel seen and valued.”

The event concluded with a renewed commitment to excellence, underscoring the vital role of non-academic staff in advancing Makerere University’s vision as a global center of knowledge.
