Hundreds of Rwenzururu Kingdom subjects lined the streets of Kasese on Friday to warmly welcome their King, Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere, ahead of his 58th coronation anniversary next week.

Mumbere’s return was met with enthusiastic crowds in Kikingo-Rugendabara, Hima Town Council, Mubuku Town Council, and Kasese Municipality. Juliet Best Bakoko, Minister for Gender, Rehabilitation, and Disability Affairs, praised the overwhelming support shown by the subjects and urged them to continue rallying behind the upcoming celebrations.

Goretti Mbambu, a resident of Mubuku, shared her excitement, noting that her family always participates in kingdom events. This year, she contributed 30,000 shillings towards the anniversary, calling it a joy to have their King celebrating with them once again.

However, Prime Minister Joseph Muranga expressed concern over the slow pace of resource mobilization. With a budget of 400 million shillings for the event, less than 10 million has been raised so far. Muranga appealed to district leaders to help intensify efforts.

This year’s celebration, marking both Mumbere’s coronation and the 15th anniversary of the kingdom’s official recognition by the government, is set for October 19 at Kilembe Golf Course in Kasese Municipality.
