The government has announced plans to recruit 2,821 teachers for 91 seed schools nationwide ahead of the upcoming school term. This initiative is part of efforts to enhance education quality in the country.

Rev. Prof. Dr. Samuel Luboga, chairperson of the Education Service Commission, confirmed that job advertisements were published on December 23, 2024, with a closing date for applications set for January 10.

To facilitate the application process, schools have been organized into 10 clusters, with designated application submission centers located in Gulu, Arua, Soroti, Mbale, Kololo (Kampala), Hoima, Fort Portal, and Mbarara.

Derrick Namisi, principal economist in the Ministry of Education and Sports, explained that this recruitment is part of the second phase of the Uganda Government Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers program (UGIFT). Each school will hire 31 staff members, including seven graduate science teachers, totaling 637 for science and an equal number for arts. Additionally, 364 diploma-holding science teachers and 455 diploma-holding arts teachers will be recruited.

The schools will also employ six non-teaching staff members each, amounting to a total of 547 non-teaching positions, which will include bursars, library assistants, and laboratory assistants. Dr. Asuman Lukwago, secretary of the Education Service Commission, noted that the exercise will require 1.3 billion shillings to cover allowances and transportation costs for staff.

Officials encourage teachers to submit their applications in person at the specified centers to meet the deadline for the new term.
