Uganda’s Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, has been named the African Female Leader of the Year 2024 by The African Leadership Magazine. The announcement was made on Monday, as the magazine revealed its African Persons of the Year for 2024.
The award comes after a rigorous three-step selection process, including public nominations, an editorial board screening, and an online poll. Other nominees in Nabbanja’s category included Antoinette Sayeh, former Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund; Hellen Oritsejafor, a Nigerian philanthropist and businesswoman; and Patricia Obo-Nai, CEO of Terecel Ghana.
Upon hearing the news, Nabbanja expressed her gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), thanking those who voted for her in the global poll. She said, “I have been declared the winner in the African Female Leaders category. Thank you for the trust. A luta Continua!”
In addition to Nabbanja’s honor, several other notable figures were recognized. Uganda’s Minister of Health, Ruth Aceng, was awarded African Public Health Champion of the Year 2024, while Ugandan businessman Dr. Hassan Bassajabalaba, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Kampala International University, was named African Educationist of the Year 2024.
Ken Giami, Publisher of The African Leadership Magazine, praised the winners for their significant contributions to the continent, calling them “a force for good on the continent.”
The winners will be formally honored at the 14th Annual African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards Ceremony, scheduled for February 27-28, 2025, in Casablanca, Morocco.
