Team Uganda, comprising Joseph Cwinyaai, Peace Kabasweka, Abdul Kakeeto, and Martha Babirye, representing Toro and Uganda Golf Clubs, triumphed at the 2024 KCB East Africa Golf Tournament, held last Friday at Sigona Golf Club. The team, alongside Elton Thembo and Peace Hellen from Entebbe Golf Club, Bizibu William Fredrick from Mbarara Golf Club, and Meron Kyomugisha from Kabale Golf Club, showcased exceptional teamwork, finishing with a total of 106 Stableford points to claim the championship title. Competing against 230 golfers, they brought home the regional trophy and a grand prize of Ksh. 1 million.
Team captain Joseph Cwinyaai credited their success to the trust and collaboration within the group. “This victory reflects the strength of our teamwork and belief in each other. We’re eager to continue our success in future tournaments,” he said.
The Nyanza team, featuring Jotem Pabari, Preshant Thakar, Ramesh Karia, and Aamit Shah, came in second with 106 points but lost by countback. Kakamega’s team, consisting of Cedrik Konzolo, Jack Songwa, Julius Oketch, and Allan Muhando, secured third place with 104 points.
Several individual awards were also presented at the event. Peace Kabasweka, with a handicap of 1, claimed the Ladies Winner title with 34 points, alongside the Longest Drive award. “Victory feels incredible, and I encourage more women to take up golf—there’s a place for anyone who believes in themselves,” Kabasweka remarked. The Men’s Longest Drive title went to John Lejirima.
Ramadhan Maulid of Nanyuli Golf Club, playing off a handicap of 17, was named the overall winner, narrowly defeating Mickey Simbakwira on countback. Junior golfer Bianca Wanjiru, with a handicap of 15, won the Junior category with 26 points, while Ibrahim Lande, playing off a handicap of 17, took top honors in his category with 37 points.

The KCB East Africa Golf Tour is an annual event organized by KCB Group and its regional subsidiaries, designed to promote excellence in golf and further the bank’s purpose-driven mission. This year’s tour attracted nearly 3,000 golfers across five East African countries, 26 golf courses, and 15 counties in Kenya. By fostering inclusivity, nurturing talent, and promoting regional cohesion, the tour acts as a catalyst for social impact.
As part of their victory, Team Uganda will now compete in the prestigious 2025 Magical Ladies Open at Vipingo Ridge in Kilifi County, Kenya.
