Kenyan and Ugandan riders are gearing up for an intense competition this weekend at the second and final round of the FIM Africa Central Africa Motocross Challenge (CAC), set to take place at the Vipingo Ridge racetrack, Mombasa. Organized by the Mombasa Motor Club (MMC), this event will also serve as the ninth and final round of the Kenya National Motocross Championship.

The CAC season-closer promises to deliver an exciting challenge, with riders navigating epic jumps and tricky twists across various classes. Team Kenya, led by Apollo Mbuki, captain of the 2024 Motocross of African Nations (MXOAN) team, will compete in the MX1 category, while lady rider Atete Benzinge, aiming for a top finish, will represent her country in the female-dominated sport.

Uganda dominated the first round of the CAC in March, claiming victory with a total of 1540 points, far ahead of Kenya’s 179 points. However, Kenyan riders will be hoping to turn the tables in the hot and humid coastal weather, adding extra excitement to the competition.

Riders like Fortune Emmanuel Ssentamu, Ashim Sserwadda, and Isima Mukiibi are expected to shine for Uganda in MX1, continuing their top form after a strong performance in the 2024 MXOAN in Morocco, where they secured silver in the team rankings. Uganda’s Captain Stav Asiimwe Orland also claimed gold in MX2, contributing to their overall success.

Despite Uganda’s dominant performance in the first round, the rivalry between the two nations continues to heat up. This regional series, akin to the “Elgon Cup” in rugby and the “Victoria Cup” in golf, sees Kenya and Uganda fiercely contesting in a home-and-away format.
